What I gravitate towards most in art are the things that say something personal about the artist. I often have a hard time connecting to art that revolves around impersonal concepts. Expressing the things that make a person who they aside from outside forces are the most intriguing to me. This is something that I try to express in work I've posted on this blog. They are projects that tell a little something about me.
When choosing what artistic direction to go in, I first think of the viewer or audience. Choosing a concept that is personal to myself my come off as bring boring, or difficult to understand by others. To work around this, I choose an idea that is familiar and then skew it. Creating something that is relatable and then placing your own interpretation on it can evoke an emotion or sense of wonder in the viewer.
The work posted on this blog site are the projects I created for a digital art class. Since I rarely use digital as an art medium (accept for photography), these are also a representation of my own tactile design aesthetic. I enjoy incorporating elements that I would use in other more traditional forms or art, such as texture and overlapping. I've always had a fascination with tactile surfaces and patterns, and I am intrigued to continue learning how to incorporate a sense of texture in the otherwise un-tactile medium of digital art.
